“But we have this treasure in clay jars, so that it may be made clear that this extraordinary power
belongs to God and does not come from us.” - 2 Corinthians 4:7
While I was pastoring my first church in Oklahoma, on Sunday nights, I was attending another church, one of the few UCC churches in Oklahoma. Initially, I went because the pastor’s story captivated me.
Before leading the Sunday night church, Rev. Leslie had been a Methodist minister. One day during the late 1980’s, one of Leslie’s Methodist congregants came to her with a request. This woman was a nurse at the local hospital and was concerned about one of her patients. The patient had AIDS, a disease that terrified people and made everyone stay away.
